What I learned with Javascript

Before I started learning the coding language, javascript, I had no idea what javascript was all about. I mean I had a rough idea of what javascript was supposed to do, but no real examples. Not only that but I did not even decide to look into to sites with its capabilities. Don’t get me wrong I’m going through  the Front End Web Development track through team treehouse and learning the basic properties, functions, and syntax of the language, but I still could not see the big picture.

Well that all changed when I decided to truly focus on learning all about the world of Front End Web Development. I began buying books on the subject, and since javascript was my weakest language to pick up, I thought of devoting more time to studying it more. I bought the book “Javascript For Kids” by Nick Morgan and my eyes were opened. Before Javascript was just a bunch of functions I could use but didn’t know any idea how. With this book it not only teaches you the different functions along with practical projects to practice, but also shows the possibilities of what Javascript can handle.

I mean before I read this book I had no idea how it related to websites, but Javascript actually interacts with the HTML document which allows you to create functions to either solve problems, create games/apps, or even…wait for it…

Animations To Your Website.

just for an example, you can create a function to have your heading of website follow your mouse (I think thats cool). When I saw this my mind began bubbling with ideas to what I could create. This opened up a new world to me. Why, because with javascript it feels as it caters to my interests. I like to create and build things, yet alone see, watch, or almost anything that has to do with animation,  Javascript allows me to do that. In the book they even teach you how to make a snake game. To me it’s only a preview to what I can do.

I believe coding allows me to interact with both sides of my brain, the creative and analytical or right and left side, and when you add Javascript creativity is unlimited–especially combined with CSS. I no longer have to rely on WordPress themes to do what I want, but create my own. So I’m excited to dive in and learn even more. I decided to really dive deep into this language and become proficient in this.

Reading this book and completing the practices and doing team treehouse I have realized I am a front End Web Developer now. I don’t have to wait for a specific job or title to tell me what I am. Who I am and becoming is what I do and I feel like I am in the Front End world and don’t want to leave this world for some time.

So if your interested in Learning all about javascript I highly recommend this book for beginners or novices as well to keep you skills fresh. I know I’m keeping this book in my arsenal and will guide anyone to it wanting to learn.
