We live in a day where it seems we’re always on the go and we never have time to stop and study.
Maybe the majority of our time is consumed at work and we don’t have time to learn how to code.
We literally have to carve out time in order to learn the things we want to.
But the question is, “how do we create more time out of the time we are already given?”.
Now I’m not an advocate of multitasking, but to accomplish the goal of learning code we need to think differently.
Here is a story to illustrate my point.
How I discovered these podcasts for developers
I remember the idea of first starting to learn how to code…
it was overwhelming for me!
I once learned that one of the best ways to learn something is to fully immerse yourself in it.
For example, if you’re learning Spanish its said you should start listening to the radio, your music, or watching tv in the language.
This will help you to get acclimated to the language.
I thought to myself…
“why would this be any different?”
I needed to immerse myself with other developers and start learning the language and vocabulary of front end web developers.
At my previous job working in a warehouse, 9 times out of 10 I could be found listening to music with Spotify or maybe an audiobook.
It was then I thought, “why not be productive as well doing the same thing?”.
Learning while I’m working.
Because I was familiar with my work already I was able to tune in to the things I was listening to…
as long as the work didn’t require my full attention.
That’s when I typed in the search bar of spotify and discovered it.
There were actually people who made podcasts talking about coding.
I couldn’t believe it, but it was then I knew that I found gold.
I started listening to one and then I found others with the same theme and was perfect for beginners like myself.
So here we are today…
I wanted to create some resources that I think that not only front end web developers should have in their arsenal, but any developer.
The Best 3 Podcasts Every Developer Should Have In Their Arsenal
I know from my own experience when I began coding there were so many coding languages to learn, not to mention tools and frameworks.
It was quite whelming.
My motto is to always keep things simple, therefore here are 3 podcasts that I listened to daily to help my growth.
They allowed me to keep up to date with the newest technologies and gain insight from developers who have been in the game for quite some time.
Having too many options can sometimes lead to indecisiveness.
So I will give my experience from each one of these podcast and how they can benefit you as a front end web developer.
Once again, without further ado let’s get into the best 3 podcast that helped me get to where I am today and are still growing with.
1. Learn To Code With Me.
This was one of the first podcasts for developers that I stumbled upon.
LTCWM is hosted by a wonderful young lady by the name of Laurence Bradford.
She hosts a plethora of interviews with various candidates whose jobs and roles range from all over.
Actually, I stumbled upon her podcast when I first started getting into code while at work.
As mentioned before, I wanted to immerse myself in all forms of learning how to code.
Why not try to find podcasts made for web developers?
So I did a simple search for podcast about coding/front end web development and hers came up.
I began to listen and fell in love with the content she was providing.
Another thing I loved was she brought on people from various disciplines and these interviews had great insight.
It’s perfect for anyone who is new to coding and wants to make a transition in careers.
They provide insights on how to prepare for those moves.
It’s also very motivational and inspiring to hear everyones story.
You will learn how they began their coding journey and how they were able to land a job in the field.
Along with the hardships that came with the learning.
Listening was never disheartening, but encouraging.
Listen and hear what others did in order to see a change in their life.
This podcast is perfect for any newbie who wants to learn as well for anyone who wants to hear some great stories.
Discover how coding is making a difference in peoples lives.
Not only that but the advancements many are creating in the field, even as a beginner.
I think my favorite part about the podcast is that she breaks each season into themes.
I do not think she did that intentionally, but as time went on I think she just continued…

Honestly I think this podcast is my favorite.
Hosted by two great guys, Wes Bos and Scott Tolinski, we are able to follow their journey and hear their perspective.
These are 2 guys who have been in the game for years.
Not only are you getting great experience, but these two work well together as a duo.
I have a great time and a great laugh listening as they talk about family, business, and life.
These guys are a riot, and they know what they’re talking about.
Providing great content as well as resources developers can use, especially with all the newest tech that’s always changing.
I think my favorite thing about this podcast is that they both are full stack developers.
(This means they know front end and back end coding)
I feel I was drawn to them because they addressed a language I was really interested in, Javascript.
As mentioned earlier they talk more than just javascript or different frameworks, but they address other skills developers should tackle.
For example, how to build your soft skills along with marketing, and my personal favorite: business.

For example, Scott Tolinski likes to break dance and you can find him on his IG busting some moves.
Wes likes to grill, so he’ll talk about smoking and grilling, or maybe another business adventure he does for fun.
Overall it’s a fun and interactive podcast.

I found out about this podcast from listening to syntax.
Who says you can’t find good content from another podcast?
I told you there had good resources.
Code Newbie is hosted by a young lady by the name of Saron Yitbarek.
Similar to Learn to Code With Me, Saron interviews many people from various disciplines.
She asks about their journey, how they got into code, and how they have used code to not only change their lives but others as well.
Her goal is to discover how code and tech has influenced them in some capacity.
What I like most about this podcast is the various people that she has interviewed.
They all have interesting and diverse backgrounds.
One thing consistent with all these podcast for developers is…
Most of the guests that have been interviewed have either been self-taught or…
They took the non-traditional route without a 4 year computer science degree.
The thing that got them through it all was the determination, motivation, and grit.
Listening to them is truly an inspiration.
Especially when everyone comes from various backgrounds, sometimes from the total opposite spectrum.
Now they have jobs in this tech industry.
A testament that there is a demand for these skills and it’s not always about the degree, but your skills.
Code newbie also provides various resources that are fun and insightful.
Sometimes they give a glimpse into how some developers are able to mix their former backgrounds into coding.
For example art and code, in other words — the world of CSS.
The world of web development is open to your imagination and creativity.
