My Origin Story

It was around 2007 when I entered my first year of college.

I was afraid of the new challenges and the course load of what was to come because frankly I didn’t do well in high school. I thought college was another level.

The rumors of writing 20 page research papers was intimidating especially when I could barely write 2 page research papers in high school.

Now I originally started off as an engineer major, but along the way I somehow switched to being an art major, as if I knew how I was gonna make it as an engineer…

now as an artist what job was out there for me drawing.

The one thing I wanted in life was to know I could make it on my own and take care of myself.

However that was hard when I had no money or a job to help me out financially…

and for the high paying jobs that were available, I didn’t think my skills were good enough so I didn’t even attempt to apply.

I felt stuck and towards my senior year I fell into a deep depression.

I remember laying in my room in the dark and just kept asking myself

“what am I going to do?”

I had a little over a year before I graduated and I felt nowhere ready to make it in the real world.

Then I met someone. He was making money doing graphic design work and building websites for people and making money from his “art” skills.

Ironically he wasn’t in school for art, but marketing.

That’s when I knew there was hope. If I could use these design skills to make money I would be set.

So I started learning the world of graphic design and web development.

But I ran into another problem…

I wasn’t getting clients the way I thought I could. As Kanye West said in his song last call “things weren’t poppin off the way they should have.”

This led me down another road. I began to learn the beauty and art of research. I wanted to know why I wasn’t getting a consistent amount of clients and even more how does websites work.

I guess in my interest and inquisitive mind of engineering on how things work, I discovered two things: web development, which is how to build websites from scratch through coding, and the reason I wasn’t getting any clients was because I didn’t understand the skills of marketing.

That brings me here today.

Over the years I have dedicated myself to learning these two subjects.

Through research, I was able to get a better paying job with coding because I learned how to market myself.

Yet the greatest part through it all was who I am today.

I learned that what I want in life is not determined by someone showing me how, i.e. school, but by taking the time to ask questions and research how to get what I want and model what works.

So now my journey is to help others who like myself have no idea where to begin and provide tools to a better and more confident self.
