How to remove paint from glass and mirrors

Today I learned 2 things…

  1. Things that piss you off and seem difficult can probably be an easy fix
  2. Waiting to fix a problem prolongs how fast the problem could have been solved

So the quick backstory was my car was hit and I had to get it repaired. When I got the car back there was some paint residue left on my side mirror which caused me trouble seeing.

I was mad because I questioned why can’t people do things professionally and at a high quality so I don’t have to worry about things like this.

Granted I could have gone back to let them know and get it handled but my belief is if they didn’t do well in the beginning what’s gonna change if I go back and report it.

Therefore, I took it on myself to figure out how to do it. Sadly I put it off for probably about two months.

What really led me to finding the solution for the mirror was for another reason…

my wind shield wipers.

Have you ever turned on your windshield wipers and they skip, jitter and frankly do not clean your windows properly.

It’s amazing how the mind works.

When I saw that the first thing I thought was that the problem could be with my battery. I thought it was dying because this didn’t happen until I changed my battery, or so I thought.

I was finally fed up and decided I would take the time to find the solution. So I did as any good researcher would do and went to YouTube.

In short I found two reasons what could cause my wiper issue.

  1. A bent bar to the blade or
  2. A dirty wiper

When I saw this I thought it couldn’t be that simple.

Sure enough I checked if my blade was bent, and it was all good. Then I decided to clean the blade.

Like a miracle I couldn’t believe that the problem was as a simple as a dirty wiper and windshield. I knew i need to clean my windshield but I didn’t imagine that it cause this problem

Now I felt like I had a new car.

Everything was running smooth and what I thought was gonna be an expensive fix only took some elbow grease and time.

Once I got hooked on something I continue down the rabbit hole.

So I decided to do the same thing with the paint on my side mirror.

Again, in my research I was in disbelief that the solution was that simple.

All I needed was some windex and a scraper?

I sprayed the windex and began to scrape the glass.

Shockingly I could feel the paint beginning to peel off and could see the shine of the mirror again.

My car felt brand new and amazingly I could see everything out my mirrors.

What I learned

The lesson I took from all this was don’t procrastinate when you have a problem.

It was so simple but I was always put it off.

To simplify: “Don’t put off what you can do today.”

It always amazes me because this is not the first time I’ve done this. I really need to put this into practice in my daily life.

That is why I had to take the time to write this down. Not only for a life lesson but a simple life back to get rid of painting on glass.

Tutorial Recap

Ok so here is the tutorial for a quick recap.

Get a glass cleaner, doesn’t have to be windex, and a flat blade scraper, this is the one I used.

Spray the glass cleaner on the effected area and use the scraper to begin to see and feel the paint come off.

It’s as simple as that.

I like to scrape in one direction as too to not scrape out possible scratch the glass or mirror.

When done take a rag or towel and clean off to see your finished work or the areas you need to address.
